MarinaEnrichment Classes
Session 1: September 13 – November 18
Marina’s after school Enrichment Classes begin soon! These 8 week classes are available to Marina Students at all grade levels. Classes will be held one day each week from 2:15-3:15pm beginning September 13 - November 18. Sign-ups and donations will be taken in the school office. Space is limited; the minimum class size is 10 students. Please make checks payable to Marina Village Middle School; the class fee is non-fundable.
A Heavy Metal Workshop: Brass Ensemble for All Skill Levels - Mondayswith Mr. Chopp in the band room ($20 class fee):Trumpets, trombones, and tubas, OH MY!! And not a squawking reed to be heard! Join Mr. Chopp as we explore the sound and support necessary to make all that metal play with some serious mettle. Learn proper breathing, warm-up, and endurance techniques to build your “chopps”. Music will be provided, but bring some staff paper and a pencil to take notes. (Get it? NOTES!) French horns are also welcome.
Chef Bambino Cooking - Mondays with Mrs. Askin from 2:15-3:30 in room 8 ($80 class/materials fee):CHEF BAMBINO is offering after school hands-on cooking classes at Marina Village Middle School (new menu). Experience the joy of cooking with Chef Bambino and learn how to make healthy choices. Chef Bambino uses fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs as much as possible. Cooking with children benefits include: Building confidence, math and science studies, promoting future health and creating an opportunity to spend quality family time. In addition to these benefits, Chef Bambino makes it more fun and educational experience by sharing cultural experiences. The maximum class size is 20 students. Click here for a copy of the menu.
Writers of a Lost Art! Wednesdays with Mrs. Meyers in room 26 ($20 class fee):Are you tired of not being able to read your teacher's writing on the board? Are your parents' notes to you like a foreign language? Unlock the hidden treasures of the ancient writing style known as CURSIVE. Step back in time and join Mrs. Meyers on Wednesdays learning the curls and swirls of D'Nealian cursive handwriting. Amaze your friends! Please your grandparents! Don't let those squiggly lines be a mystery any more!
Mural Painting- Wednesdays with Mrs. Colter in room 12($20 class fee): Do you enjoy painting? Do you consider yourself an artist? Would you like to make your mark on the world? If you answered yes to all of these questions, then the Mural Enrichment Class is for you. We will finish the water shed mural on the back of room 11. The mural will include the Sierra Mountains, terrain, animals, and plants from our region. Make sure to bring clothes that can get paint on them. See you there.
Sing It!Vocal Technique – Thursdays with El Dorado Musical Theatre in the band room($80 class fee):Do you love to watch Glee? Are you singing along to songs on your iPod? Come to this class and learn how to gain confidence necessary to perform at your best. We will explore your singing talents and discover how you can improve your vocal abilities.Students will study important elements of vocal technique, proper breathing, vocal placement and range, as well as understanding aspects of music notation. Each student will be able to work at his or her own singing level. The maximum class size is 20 students.
Strength and Cardio Training - Thursdays with Mrs. Larsen in the Multipurpose Room ($20 class fee):
We are taking the Walking Club to a NEW Level with Strength Training! Incorporating both strength and cardio training will enhance motor fitness skills and sports performance, while preventing injuries in youth sports and recreational activities. Students will do strength training exercises with his/her own body weight such as: Basic crunches, reverse curls, lunges, push ups, leg lifts, squats, tricep dips and Core Exercises. The benefits of Strength and Cardio Training include: 1) Increasing muscle strength and endurance 2) Helping protect muscles and joints from injury 3) Improving student’s performance in nearly any sport! 4) Strengthening bones 5) Cardiovascular protection 6) Improving self esteem & self image 7) Helping maintain a healthy weight 8) Helping with stress. Plus, as an incentive, students will get a Rocking Frog yogurt card with the completion of the 8 week class.
