On behalf of the staff at Marina Village Middle School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year! I would like to introduce and welcome our new Marina science teacher, April Saunders. At Marina, we use the word Ohana (Hawaiian for Family), as our guiding theme. As a school family, we strive towards developing a school culture centered on positive relationships, mutual respect, academic excellence, and educational innovation. I’m privileged to serve a dedicated staff of educators, caring students, and engaged families. The continuous building up of all three of these components helps to create what makes Marina such a unique school and helps define our Marina Ohana.
We are excited that our long awaited construction projects are in full swing. Our new two-story building will provide 14 modern classrooms, including two science labs and a full STEM technology center upon completion for the 2018-2019 school year. A new track has been completed and brand new sod has been planted on our athletic fields. We will soon forward updated school maps for our relocated portables which are now situated on the PE tennis courts. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we navigate construction this year and upgrade our facilities to better prepare our students for 21st Century learning.
We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
- Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience
- Completes all homework assignments given by teachers
- Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
- Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
- Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
The wonderful Marina Village staff and I feel privileged to be a part of this school Ohana. We thank you for your support and look forward to partnering with you to provide our students with the very best educational experience. Please consider joining our school volunteer PTC program as our students will greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school’s program and its operations. Once again, welcome back and thank you for entrusting your student’s education to us. GO MUSTANGS!
